and for my next trick...

Riley went to the boat this weekend while Gidget and I stayed home to practice... walking.

A quick recap:
4 weeks ago, she had knee surgery.
2 weeks ago, she wouldn't start using her leg, so the vet taped a rock to her good leg.
As of Friday, she still wouldn't use her leg, so the vet taped her good leg to her side, where it is supposed to remain for the next 2 weeks.

Now, she would rather walk on her two front legs.  It's pretty comical (and amazing!) and I couldn't resist trying to catch a little of it on video.  However, this is getting to be a real problem.  If she doesn't start walking on her leg soon, she might never use it for the rest of her life.

Furthermore... yesterday, in true Houdini fashion, she somehow escaped the bandage entirely.  So today we're headed back to the vet to get it taped up all over again.

Fingers crossed that it sticks this time.  Literally.

  1. It does look comical, but I hope she will be able to walk normal again soon. Is she in pain?

    1. It's healed really well, and after this many weeks she shouldn't be in pain anymore. And she doesn't act like she is. She's just stubborn :)

  4. On the one hand, that video is hilarious, but on the other, it breaks my heart. Poor girl- I hope she comes around to using both back legs.

  7. Hilarious! But super frustrating for you I'm sure... you know when Caroline tore her ACL and it came time for her to start using it again, playing with our other dog Chester was what encouraged it the most. She would get distracted playing, forget, and then finally let her leg down a little. Any other dog friends around that Gidget could play with?

  10. haha! this is really funny, but sad at the same time! I hope your pup is doing better now! They do some weird things don't they? Did your dog know how to walk on it's front legs before this?

    1. She's doing much better now! No, I had never seen her do it before... Riley thought it would be a fun trick to teach her after she recovered, but we haven't attempted it yet :)

  11. So I realize that I'm a little tardy to the party here, but let me just say - this is incredible! I think that if my dog had done this, and my husband or I had seen it (much less caught it on tape!) we would have already auditioned her for several daytime talk shows and possibly also America's Got Talent. Wowza. Love it!!

    1. Oh, I know! On one hand, we really didn't want her to do it so that she would start using her back leg, but on the other... it was so funny! If I had gotten a better clip I'm sure I would have considered it. But she didn't really perform on demand :)
