oh hey, we live on a boat now.

It's official.  We are crazy people.  We are crazy people that now live on a 30' sailboat.

This week is going to be a big adjustment for us.  We've stayed on the boat for several days at a time, but we've never lived on a boat.  And we've certainly never had all of our stuff with us.  I've got to get this situation under control!

My wish for this week is to at least start making a dent in some of these goals:

1. Get organized.
This is a big one, and it's going to take awhile to really figure out what works for us.  Everything that we brought with us has been divided up into plastic boxes.  The trick is to figure out how to situate them so that we don't feel like we are constantly living in our own personal game of tetris.

2. Get up close and personal with the kitchen.
Our galley (kitchen) is teeny tiny and so far I've been able to avoid doing much cooking.  But I'm not going to be able to get away with that much longer.  I've got to start cooking, start figuring out and getting comfortable with using limited counter space, limited appliances, and a maneuvering whole new dish washing scenario.

3. Get rid of my personal bubble.
Or shrink it, at least. Did you know that the average married couple only spends about two and a half hours a day together?  Not all of that time is spent actually interacting with each other, either.  Riley and I are going to be spending all of our time together, and in a little boat to boot.  As much as we love each other... it's going to be a big adjustment.  Especially with all of that whistling.

Okay, that sounds like a lot.  I should probably add in "do something fun and non boat related."  But I'm worried that might be setting the bar a little high for the first week.  If I could figure out how to make all of the above stuff fun in the process, that would really be something, though.  Wish us luck!

Do you make weekly goals?  What are some of yours for this week?

  2. I bet you'll adjust better and quicker than you expect and it will all become second nature. well, except the whistling or, listening to the whistling I should say. Time to throw the bowlines off and explore!

  3. This looks amazing!!! And I bet you'll be all home-y on it before you know it! Woah that is crazy that normal couples only spend 2.5 hours together each day - that is alarming...I hope your week goes well and you can explore and get comfy on that awesome (!!!) sailboat! :)

  6. Allison, what an amazing start to what is sure to be an incredible adventure! My husband gets incredibly seasick, a fact we didn't discover until just last year on a fated snorkeling trip. I'm not sure if we would survive living on a boat, even with Dramamine, but I am so excited to hear more about your adventure!

    1. Oh no! That must have been awful to discover that on a snorkeling trip! :( I'm still not quite sure that I will survive living on a boat, but I'm more than happy to share all of my (mis)adventures! :)

  18. When mama told me about your stuff in boxes she says to me "Chelsa. Their stuff is in little boxes. LITTLE boxes. I don't think they are able to take ANYTHING." lol, She was horrified for you!
Btw, Lauren suggested that you get a "trade out" set of clothes and we can get them from your mom and when we come see you in the winter we can bring them and take back the ones you will have wore all those months :)

    1. Haha, yeah they are pretty tiny. We'll see how well we do with what we brought! If anything, I probably brought too much, and I definitely brought all of my favorites. :) Well, except shoes, that is.

  25. This would be one of the hardest things for me. When we go spend the whole weekend in our camper during the summer I struggle so much with packing and then living out of one bags for the thee days we are there. Luckily for us we have a dresser that stays there and we are able to leave a good amount of stuff in the camper and not have to worry about it when I am packing on the weekends. Whistling is one of my biggest problems with my hubby! Drives me insane!!!!
